Shudder. Feel their pain. Please. It's the season of good cheer, new beginning and resolutions.
Feel the Pain of sane members of the GOP who will have to slog through the sleet, snow and rain this week to choose between Mr. Huckabee and Mr. Romney. It boggles the mind.
Remember the millions of moderately conservative members of the GOP? Remember them as you write. We want to gather them to us. They have to choice between Mr. Better Hair, and Mr. Better Jesus. They shudder.
After having taken a month off from dKos. I have been back reading journals here for the last week.
I have very few comments. I posted about a mid-day conversation about Bloomberg's likely run, but I have found it somewhat disturbing the number of truly vituperative postings exist between supporters of Mr. Edwards, Mr. Obama, and Ms. Clinton. Why? We have good choices to contrast with bad choices.
Stop it. Remember who we need to win over. Not each other. We need to win over them.
Many very unhappy, and very lonely members of the "I have no choice" GOPers will be coming here and other places to look for someone they can get behind.
Write for them.
We have been reading anecdotal posts about GOPers showing up at DEM events. We hear about GOPers supporting Mr. Edwards, Mr. Obama, even Ms. Clinton. She is a harder sell to the GOP after the years of attacks. But the sell still can be made. It must be made.
Talk about the Progressive nature of Mr. Edwards and how it appeals the Christians who want to help the poor.
Talk about the Inclusive nature of Mr. Obama and how he worked with the GOP when in the State Leg.
Talk about the International Credentials of Ms. Clinton and pepper the articles with the many positive quotes from GOP senators who do admire many of her stands.
If you truly support the candidate you claim to support, each time you post...don't ask what to crow about from the latest poll numbers.
Instead ask, what argument could I make, that some lonely moderate, some religious progressive, some "scared of the other unknown" reader who has never travelled will find compelling to read further.
I don't think any of the"my candidate can beat up your candidate" journals I have read will have moved a single voter from one camp to another. But I think every one of them can have the effect of driving disafected voters in the middle away from you candidate.
The purpose, clearly stated of dKos is to elect Democrats to represent the interests of the great majority of Americans. Consider that with each posting.
And if you really want a trip to the Frame Shop on how to accomplish that goal, then consider that Moderate, barely in the GOP, mother of three wondering how long she can juggle the demands of church, mortgage, falling wages and isolation. She is out there. She is wondering what possible difference voting for Mr. Huckabee or Mr. Romney will make to her.
Mr. Huckabee has a compelling case that he has a better Jesus. Mr Romney has a compelling case that he is really rick and has good hair in all weather.
That really is all she has to choose from on her side.
Give her reasons and a welcoming doorway to come over to our side.
All of our candidates have things to say to her. All of them. Say them.
Run against them. Not against each other.
I think everyone here would find the quality of dialogue, and the effectiveness of our message increased.
Just Saying.
